Local groups share views on health care

July 17, 2017

Local organisations and groups from the Lyme Regis and Charmouth area met on 26th June 2017 at the Woodroffe School to share their views around healthcare in the area.

The event was organised by NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) as part of the on-going process to explore the future of primary medical and community services in and around the town.

Those attending were invited to give their views on a number of possible options on how local services could look, feeding back through smaller groups. All the feedback gathered will be used to inform the on-going review process.

Adrian Ragbourne of LymeForward Health and Wellbeing Group helped organise and attended the event. He said “It is important that people and organisations from in and around Lyme Regis in Charmouth have their say about any changes to services that will affect them and I am pleased that views have already been sought and so many people turned up to find out more and let the CCG know what they think.

It was great to hear such honest and open feedback at the event; the majority of people understand the challenges the health system faces but they were still able to voice their concerns and I am confident that their views will be listened to.”

Emma Wilson, Senior Primary Care Lead from NHS Dorset CCG said “We are delighted that so many organisations were represented at the event, it really shows the interest in healthcare in and around the town and we came away with some really important information about what people think that could help us in the future.

We would like to stress that no decisions have been made about future provision of care or how future care would look; as we continue the process we will keep in regular contact with LymeForward's Health and Wellbeing Group and local Patient Participation Groups to test and share ideas. We will also keep local people informed at key points via the usual channels including our website, the media and public meetings.”

The contract for the provision of primary medical and community services at Lyme Regis Medical Centre was awarded to Virgin Care in November 2012 for the duration of 5 years. This contract is due to end in January 2018 with discussions underway to extend until January 2019.

This extension would allow full planning, design and engagement to follow strategic direction within Dorset CCG to include the Clinical services Review, Integrated Community Services Review, Primary Care Commissioning Strategy, GP Forward View and Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP).
